Hope your all well and enjoying the week and the new program
It always fascinates me how trends come and go in the fitness industry and how easily influenced people are into believing in whatever is the latest or in vogue. The old saying we are like sheep certainly is the case and the media and marketing certainly is king when it comes to peoples belief system.
The latest science tells us that resistance training especially weight training is not only the best way to lose weight and keep it off but has so many health / wellness benefits.
The latest science based studies tells us that Interval Cardio is not better for fat loss than steady cardio.
Cardio is just not a good way to lose body fat and it does absolutely nothing to help your metabolism
Now this is totally opposite to what is currently in vogue and what the media and marketing is telling us
More studies tells us that
Runners are by far the most injury prone athletes on the planet
70 -90% of people that just run as a form of exercise get serious injuries with their feet hips and knees and only a very few people actually have a suitable physique to run – plus as above it just isn’t a good way to lose body fat – Please Note – I think any exercise has its benefits as running does and its something you should do especially if you enjoy but if fat loss, strength , power , conditioning looking aesthetically better is your goal there are better ways.
What I recommend
If your going to do any cardio even walking its best to do it in 6 x week intervals so you don’t let your body get use to it as per the science tells us Cardio is pretty useless at burning fat and has very little or absolutely no benefit to your metabolism …
You can trick your body for short periods of time so if your going to do it do it in small intervals so you don’t teach your body to become a fat storing machine instead of a fat burning machine.
You also need to understand that all these diets out there from intermediate fasting to detox are all a load of bullshit and the body just doesn’t work that way . You are either working with your metabolism or against it and like i said a lot of things work in short bursts and there is a reason why people that have followed my way of training and eating for over 10 years have remained lean . They never have to change anything , they don’t become recipe chasers following one fad after another they just trust the process and can eat grains, carbs and god forbid gluten.
Body part training had received a bad wrap in recent years as interval based functional training like HIT Crossft and F45 took over with a huge marketing push but science once again has caught up and with over 10 years now of research body part training is coming back into vogue and I repeat as above “ The latest science based studies tells us that Interval Cardio is not better for fat loss than steady cardio.”
With over 3 x decades of experience Ive seen what works and I have had my fair share of critics and have had many crossfit and cardio casualties jump ship with amazing results and me being one of them . I was once a cardio tragic and ran religiously 10km everyday plus boxing, pushups sit-ups etc and could never get lean until I gave it all up when I was 30 years old trained only 3 days a week not 7 and only did weight training . I trained less than half the time I did before and got the leanest Ive ever been and Ive maintained it for over 20 years. Metabolism is the key and nothing increases your metabolism more than lean muscle tissue and when you add a great eating plan to that you will get lean and look and feel amazing.
14 years ago Coach Abel ( if you don’t follow him on social media you should he is one of the most knowledgeable people I know ) told me about the importance of sodium and adding lots to your food especially if your training ( sea or pink himalayan rock salt ) I never really took that information on board until a few years ago due to so much conflicting information there was at the time in regards to high blood pressure, heart attacks etc but once again science is now backing his theory up and even a book has been written about the importance of salt in your diet .
If you don’t include salt in your diet you should and the same with water .
Below is a post I put up on Facebook the other day in regards to the benefits of drinking more water even in winter
“Why I always recommend to all my clients to start every day with two tall glasses of room temperature or warm water before they even eat then continue to drink thru out the day,
Its just as important to stay hydrated in Winter as it is in summer and not feeling thirsty is no excuse not to drink enough water. Actually dehydration can be dangerous to your health and beverages like hot chocolate and coffee although may help you stay warm can have a negative effect on your hydration problem as they act as a diuretic . Below are a few reasons why you should stay hydrated during the cold winter months.
Cardiovascular health ( Heart ) – Dehydration lowers your blood volume, so your heart must work harder to pump the reduced amount of blood and get enough oxygen to your cells,
Water cleanses toxins from the body – Your kidneys need water to filter waste from the blood and excrete it in urine. Keeping hydrated may also help prevent urinary tract infections and kidney stones. If you are severely dehydrated, your kidneys may stop working, causing toxins to build up in your body.
It helps keep you warmer by regulating your body temperature
It helps boost your immune system, – Water helps all of your body’s systems function at optimum levels. Drinking plenty of water flushes toxins and ensures that your cells get all of the oxygen they need to function as they were meant to
Maintaining your weight – When properly hydrated, your body is far more efficient at breaking down fats and converting them to energy, Staying hydrated will also prevent your body from retaining fluids.
Water helps muscles and joints work better – When you’re well hydrated, the water inside and outside the cells of contracting muscles provides adequate nutrients and removes waste efficiently so you perform better. Water is also important for lubricating joints.
As always take care don’t become a casualty of all the bullshit junk science fads that continue to circulate look after your body and Ill see you at the gym. Remember if you want to get serious about your body transformation the winter months are a great time to start to get you looking amazing over summer and beyond. IF you haven’t already done so let me know your on board for the challenge and lets start your journey today.
